The Exorcist
The Exorcist A Terrifying Literary Landmark of Possession, Faith, and Psychological Horror
Originally published in 1971, The Exorcist is one of the most controversial and influential horror novels ever written. The story, inspired by a reported case of demonic possession in the 1940s, follows the disturbing transformation of Regan, an eleven-year-old girl living in Washington, D.C., and the desperate attempt to save her soul.
Written by William Peter Blatty, the novel presents a chilling narrative where faith, science, and human fear collide. As Regan’s condition worsens, a small group of determined individuals—including priests and medical professionals—must confront an evil force that defies rational explanation. The central idea of the story explores the fragile boundary between belief and reality: “When human understanding ends, faith becomes the only possible weapon against darkness.”
