:About the Author

Jack Schafer, PhD, is a psychologist, professor, intelligence consultant, and former Special Agent with the FBI. He spent fifteen years conducting counterintelligence and counterterrorism investigations and seven years working as a behavioral analyst within the FBI’s National Security Division Behavioral Analysis Program.

During his career, Dr. Schafer developed spy recruitment strategies, interviewed terrorists, and trained agents in interrogation and persuasion techniques. He later applied this expertise to studying everyday human interaction and communication psychology. He is also a contributor to Psychology Today and a professor at Western Illinois University, where he teaches law enforcement and criminal justice. His work focuses on human behavior, influence, and building effective relationships.
