Carolyn Chen is Associate Professor of Asian American and Asian Diaspora Studies and Comparative Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. She earned her doctorate in Sociology from UC Berkeley in 2002 and previously served as Associate Professor of Sociology and Asian American Studies at Northwestern University, where she also directed the Asian American Studies Program. Chen’s work focuses on religion, work, and identity in contemporary society, combining sociological theory with extensive field research.
